Last year, we closed all of our stores for Phoenix Day, which we named as we metaphorically burned the old Super Butcher down, and started building fresh. That was 11 months ago now - and so much has changed. 

What Phoenix Day Was

Phoenix day was the chance for us to take our teams out of the hustle and bustle of their day to day, to allow us to share our undivided attention with one another and to truly be present in the moment. We spoke about what we wanted to see from Super Butcher in the following 12 months, where we could improve and most importantly - what our teams needed to make their lives better. 

The Journey Since 

We have had an incredible 11 months since phoenix day, some of our highlights are:

• Onboarding our very own People and Happiness Coordinator, Tarni -whose sole role is to build our culture and take care of our team 
• Opening 4 stores and onboarding dozens of new team members who love to work with us
• Focusing on our people, taking our managers and staff out of their stores regularly to upskill and develop them
• Supercharging our communication
• Working behind the scenes on our Employee Benefit Scheme to release shortly! 
• Taking our entire team (and their whole family) to Dreamworld for our Family Fun Day in July, over 2 days to ensure everybody could come! 
• Planned a kick-a$$ Christmas party for our entire cohort to enjoy in a few short weeks time!

Why We're Closing Our Stores Again

 

Because our team’s happiness means the most to us...

We have opened 4 stores in 2022 and have a much larger team than we did this time last year, while our managers have done an excellent job inducting our new staff into the team - we've decided our culture day will become a yearly event to reinforce and learn with our team. 

Communication! We've done the most work on this over anything in 2022, and while we're striving to improve our everyday communication, there truly is no better way than to have the entire team in one place. 

To have some fun! We know many of our team members spend more time with their co-workers than literally anyone else and they deserve to enjoy this time as much as possible. 

Like our owner Damian says, 

 “I have a rule in my life, if it’s not fun – I won’t do it.” 

Which is why our company's purpose starts with, “We come to work to have fun.”

It ends with our mission to become the Number 1 Local Employer of Choice in Southeast Queensland. This mission has quickly become our entire company's vision, as well as our passion to serve 500,000 locals every year. 

Now it is time to take our entire team further on the the journey with us - so we can focus on them, their needs and their happiness inside and outside of work. 

This is why we are closing our stores, for our people - Monday the 24th of October. We're calling it Super Butcher Day as we continue to build the culture and virtues that make us Super. 

A business where fun is encouraged, where we own our wins and losses - a place where our employees love to come to work and others are chomping at the bit to be a part of. 

We're committed to being the best we can be, and we have set ourselves on a journey that we're so excited to bring both our staff, and our customers on as we work towards our new found goals. 

We thank you for your understanding for this disruption to our regular service schedule, but we can assure you that it will be worth it and that you will only love to be a Super Butcher shopper even more in the days, weeks, months and years to come. 

What This Means For You

When this idea was first floated, we thought it was unprecedented, we thought it was bold - but we knew it had to happen. This will affect our regular trade in the following ways: 

• No stores will be open for Retail Trade on Monday 24th October
• Online Orders will not be available for delivery or pick-up 24th, 25th October
• Our warehouse will not be open to receive deliveries Monday 24th October
